Priscilla and her two sisters (Gilliam and Semmy) come from a desperate situation. At ages four, nine, and eleven, they often function as a child-run family, living alone without an adult to care for them. Years ago, their father went fishing one night, and the neighbors discovered he had drowned the next morning. Unfortunately, even before this, he had long dealt with severe mental illness and was never stable. His widow and the children’s mother, Beatrice, never recovered from this loss and struggles daily with alcoholism. She has not been able to maintain an adequate roof on her hut and has often gone out to find shelter elsewhere.

This has left the girls alone for unpredictable periods of time – sometimes days and sometimes weeks. During those times, they are forced to fend for themselves, or to accept any charity that may or may not come. Their lives have long been unstable, and they have longed for reprieve from their constant state of uncertainty.

We are so grateful that we have been able to intervene for these girls by working with their mother. She has now moved back home, is receiving counseling, and has joined one of our discipleship groups where she is surrounded by others who can give her support and guidance. We have also put the girls in school, stepping out in faith that God would raise up sponsors for each of them. Your sponsorship of Priscilla will be a lifeline to this nine-year-old girl!

Priscilla needs an education sponsor for $35/month.
