People Are Shouting Praise for the Gift of Clean Water

The people of Amun thought it was a dream when they heard the words, “A water well is coming to this place!” There were tears in eyes and so much joy! Nothing like this had ever happened in their lives. That’s why they couldn’t go home on the day the well was drilled. Instead, they surrounded their precious gift and prayed and worshipped God through the night!

You see, before the well was drilled, their lack of water had controlled everything about their lives. No matter how hard they tried . . . putting gutters on trees and digging holes in the ground . . . they couldn’t find a solution to their water problem.

Kevine told us, “It was terrible before. Water was so far and scarce that everything was so difficult. We barely had enough water to drink and cook with, and we were always dirty and sick. We were not productive because our lives were all about getting water. It would take us from early morning until mid-afternoon . . . and our children suffered because we were always gone.”

Cyanne explained further, “For us women, traveling through the bushes was unsafe because of wild animals. Sometimes our husbands had to go with spears. Then, when we reached the water source, we had to manage the pigs and cows crowding in around us, and by the time we returned home, we were exhausted. Always, our stomachs were full of worms and there was so much sickness. Many people died because of the water we drank.”

How we praise God that all of this has now changed. Clean, sweet water is now flowing from the deep well that is located right in the middle of these people, just minutes away from their homes. People are healthy and clean, and women have their lives back to take care of their families and do other things.

Dennis, one of the community leaders told us, “First God gave us His Word and Bible study to change our hearts. Now, He has uncovered water for us that frees our lives. No one here will ever doubt that anything is impossible with God. The Lord has heard our cries and we have never felt so good in our lives.”
