A Much Loved Woman Receives a Big Blessing
Dolly is a 57-year-old widow who is loved by everyone in her community because of her character. She is giving and loving, and always trying to help others. Everyone remembers when she gave a portion of her land away – it spoke volumes about the condition of her heart, as she really had nothing else. Even today, Dolly is blessing us, as she hosts one of our Bible study clusters each week under a big tree by her home.
For many years, Dolly’s only source of water was a full two miles away. Every day, she would carry her empty jerry can (plastic container) and fill it up with spring water. An empty jerry can doesn’t weigh very much, so the trip to the water source was not as difficult. However, most jerry cans, when full of water, weigh close to fifty pounds! So the return trip was difficult. Dolly remembers the daily long hauls to get the water and said, “I would feel so tired because the distance was very far. I would wonder if I would make it that day. This was always my way of life, but it was always so hard.”
Her daily walks with the jerry can continued, but one day the news spread that an EWT water well would soon be drilled in her community! Dolly was elated. In fact, now that the well has been drilled, she says, “The well has brought happiness to our community because we now have safe water nearby. We no longer to have to walk miles to look for water. The women have been freed of this hard task, and we are healthy and clean.” She continues, “I am very happy and feel peace in my life. I thank God for hearing our prayers. We know God did this wonderful thing in our lives, and we thank Him for the people in America who loved us.”
Today we join with Dolly in her joy of drawing physical, thirst-quenching water. We also join with Dolly in thanking God for the provision of Jesus, who is “a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” (John 4:14)
