The Power of Love
Rolex is a 51-year-old man who has experienced much sorrow in his life. After growing up as a rejected stepchild and living most of his adult life as a loner and alcoholic, Rolex felt worthless and unloved. But four years ago, Rolex was literally “loved to the Lord” by one of our Bible teachers named Chris.
The relationship between Chris and Rolex became a significant turning point in Rolex’s spiritual journey—simply because Chris refused to see Rolex as a drunkard. According to Rolex, “Chris kept jovially hugging and loving me every time I would come for Bible study. In time, I started avoiding my drunkenness because I didn't want to disappoint Chris. By and by, the Holy Spirit convicted me to put to death my old life, and my life began to change as I learned God's ways through the Bible stories Chris taught me. I learned God loved me and had a purpose for my life.”
After becoming a follower of Christ, all of Rolex’s problems didn't go away, but he began to change day by day and see his problems in a new way. Today, Rolex is one of our best discipleship trainers and the lead farmer in his community. He is a powerful example of the transforming power of Jesus' love. Recently, when Rolex and the other farmers received payment for the grain and seeds they had grown through our Soy Project, Rolex said, “I thank God for the love we have found. We walk with our heads up because of what God is doing in this community.”
Rolex, we join you in giving thanks for His great transforming love in your life, and pray that we would never forget what can happen when we are a channel of that love!
