God Answered Justine and Londa's Prayers for Water

The people who live in Justine and Londa’s village have struggled for water all their lives . . . not just for clean water, but for any kind of water. Their only source was from a swamp in a sand mine that was located miles away. Day after day, year after year, the women walked the long distance and then climbed down into the sand mine to scoop up the dirty water for their daily needs. The people’s biggest fear was that the swamp would dry up if the rains delayed.

Justine told us, “I used to have such a hard time going to the sand mine to fetch water, especially in the evening hours. It would take me four hours, and I would fall down fetching because the mine was so steep. Then I would have to boil the worms out when I got home.”

Londa, who is now ninety and partially blind, squinted as she recalled her struggle, “For the past few years, I could no longer manage walking the long distance and moving down the valley to the swamp to collect water. I used to stay hungry and thirsty, waiting for my grand-daughter to come fetch water for me. When she would fetch, the water was always dirty and gave me stomach aches.”

We praise God that Londa and Justine’s water problems are now just a memory. Earlier this year, we were able to drill a well right in the middle of their community. Londa beamed as she told us, “God has answered my prayers in such a big way! Water is now so near my house . . . I can fetch small amounts many times a day. It tastes so good and now I never have to be thirsty.”

Justine rubbed her hands all across her face and then up and down her arms as she explained, “Now when I wash, it removes the dirt. I used to be so dirty but now I’m clean. Everybody in my community is so healthy and full of happiness. God has done a miracle for us and everybody knows how much He loves us. I’ll never have to go to the swamp again, and I thank Him every day!"
