Rose No Longer Drinks Swampy Water

Rose is a 45-year-old peasant farmer living deep in the village. She lives with her two sons and four grandchildren. She has been involved in our discipleship program for years and has learned the importance of trusting in God. Recently Rose was blessed when we drilled a deep water well in her village. She no longer has to walk long distances in search of water, and she can now easily fetch water anytime she needs it. Her family can bathe, wash clothes, cook, and drink clean water every day. They can even irrigate their crops when the rain is scarce.

Before the well was drilled, Rose walked miles every day for water. Rose remembers, “ I used to walk to the swamp two times a day to get enough water for the day. This meant waking up very early every morning before the sun rose and walking to the swamp. Many times, the water was contaminated since the swamp was shared with cattle. There was no option but to carry this dirty water and deal with the dirt when I got home. In times of dry seasons, the swamp always dried up and this was so heartbreaking. It always made me weak.”

The new water well has changed Rose's life. She says, “I feel so strong because I have no worries of waking up very early in the morning to go and search for water. I now have peaceful sleep. This gift has helped my family and village so much . . . words alone can’t explain it." Rose now has time to do other productive things besides fetching water, and her family is no longer plagued by water-borne disease. Even more, Rose says that this incredible gift has drawn her closer to God . . . "It is the answer to my prayers!"

Father, we thank you for your great provision of water for Rose and her community. We also thank you for those who provided it. And most importantly, we thank you for your Son, Jesus, who is Living Water. Amen.”
