Women are being Empowered through Sewing

The bright and beautiful faces of these women say it all. Gratitude and joy . . . that is what they feel. Since June, they have been coming to our EWT Center for training to become tailors. They meet three days a week in our storage room that has now been transformed into their sewing center. They have an outstanding instructor and have truly amazed us with all their talent and progress.

There are ten of them . . . all young vulnerable women, mostly widows and single moms. They arrive early for every training to study Scripture, worship and pray. If you were to eavesdrop, these women would leave no doubt in your mind that God has opened the heavens for them.

All of this began last year when ten sewing machines were purchased as gifts through our Christmas Catalog. Although we knew this would be a good project, we never dreamed that giving a sewing machine, some fabric and a year of training to each of these women would make them feel like their entire lives were changing. But it has!

According to Stella, “I thank God so much for giving me this great opportunity that I never experienced in my life. I never knew that I could make such things, but I am getting the knowledge and training. I am excited and will do something with my life through this training. This will raise up my life and change my future.”

Winnie chimed in, “I never expected I could do this. Now I am. When I began, I didn’t know how to pedal the machine, but now I know so much. I can already make sportswear, bags, dresses, uniforms and skirts. My children have not been going to school but now they will.”

These women have struggled all their lives. None of them went far in school because their families couldn’t send them. Many have already lost husbands or have been abused and abandoned . . . and now for the first time they feel like they have a good future ahead of them.

Katherine is now 20 but has been a mother since she was 13. She told us, “God is doing something great in my life. I thank Him for the people who made this opportunity possible. I have nothing to give back but God will pay you!
