Tailoring Girls Are Beautiful Trophies of God's Amazing Love & Grace
A brand new group of ten young gals entered our tailoring program six weeks ago. It’s hard to believe, but after only four weeks, they made the beautiful red, yellow, and blue dresses you see them wearing on the left.
These girls grew up in remote villages scattered all over Northern Uganda, but now they have come to live together in a little rental house near our EWT Center. Every one of them thought nothing good could ever come from their lives . . . but now, here they are, with bright futures ahead. May it warm your hearts to hear how much this tailoring project has meant to them.
Judith told us, “When we came here, some of us girls had never left home and we were all scared. We even wondered if we could learn and be able to do this, but now we have so much boldness and confidence. The staff is like parents to us, and everything here is on the foundation of God. We are learning so much about how God is the God of people who are suffering and crying,”
Susan struggled when she began to tell her story but ended it with a radiant smile . . . this is what she said, “When I was young, I was attacked by rebels and chased away from my home. Then for many years, I was separated from my family. Finally, when I came back, most of my family was dead and our home was destroyed. I had no hope and thought I could never have a future. I would move around to try to get assistance . . . but I felt ashamed. I knew the lifestyle of begging was not good, but hunger and poverty were at my door.
“Finally, I fell ill and became almost mad. I couldn’t talk, and people would laugh at me and tell me I was useless. Because I didn’t know God, I believed what they said. Never did I know there was anything good about me. But then one day I joined a discipleship group and heard the Word of God. I was so happy when people loved me and told me about Jesus. I began to heal, and my life began to change. Then one day, my discipleship leader said that I had been chosen for the tailoring training. Here I am today! Sometimes I can’t believe God loves me so much!”
Lydia added, “When I joined the tailoring training, it was like a light had shone on my face, and I was able to see that there was hope in my life. Now I am learning skills to design and make clothes . . . this has given me strength and lifted my head.”
These girls have experienced the love of Jesus and it is written all over their lives. To be around them unlocks joy and happiness inside. Their neighbors told us that when they return home in the evenings, people all around can hear them singing praises to God . . . often for hours into the night! All we can say is, “Thank you Jesus for bringing these girls into our lives, and giving us a chance to witness such beautiful trophies of your amazing love and grace!”
